Under this agreement, China, for example, will be able to increase these emissions by an astonishing number of years – 13. They can do whatever they want for 13 years. We don`t. India is conditional on its participation in receiving billions and billions of dollars in foreign aid from industrialized countries. There are many other examples. But at the end of the day, the Paris agreement is very unfair, at the highest level, to the United States. According to EPA chief Scott Pruitt, China and India signed the agreement without having to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Under the program guidelines, each nation can decide independently how to reduce emissions. Other aspects of the agreement are not binding, so there is no way to ensure that they are implemented. Trump`s announcement of the Paris climate accord looks a bit like a little bit of a past.
The first time the United States refused to sign an international climate treaty was when President George W. Bush announced his intention to withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol in 2001. Before entering into the pros and cons of the Paris Agreement, it is worth remembering how the Paris Agreement was concluded. In May, the Democratic-led House of Representatives passed its first major climate change bill in a decade with a majority of 231 to 190 votes. It is aimed at preventing the United States from withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. However, after being led by the Republican Senate, it could be easily revoked. The Paris Climate Agreement is an initiative of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to help mitigate global warming. The goal is to prevent the earth`s temperature from rising by more than 2 degrees Celsius by limiting the greenhouse gas emissions allowed by each participating nation. The American Public Health Association called the U.S. exit “unacceptable.” If President Trump is re-elected, it is likely that the United States will withdraw from the agreement by the end of his second term. There is no question, however, of the United States resuming the agreement. The president recently said that he supports measures to protect the economy and that the country could imagine the Paris climate agreement if it were amended to be fairer for the United States.
In short, the agreement does not eliminate coal jobs, it only transfers those jobs from the United States and the United States and ships them overseas. This agreement is not so much about climate as it is about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States. The rest of the world applauded when we signed the Paris Agreement — they went wild; they were so happy – for the simple reason that it put our country, the United States of America, which we all love, in a very, very great economic disadvantage. A cynic would say that the obvious reason for the economic competitors and their desire to stay in the agreement is that we continue to suffer this great self-inflicted economic injury.
