Sewing Classes at Crafty Broads are here.

It's been one of our most frequently asked questions over the years, "When are you going to teach sewing classes?" And the answer is: NOW. Introducing our two fall classes: Sewing Basics for Beginners and Introduction to Skirts - with Pockets! Classes begin soon, and space is extremely limited, so register right away if you want to get in on this. Happy sewing!

Sewing Basics for Beginners

Are you brand new to sewing? This class is for you!

In this introduction to sewing, we'll teach you the basics of using a sewing machine - how it works, threading, machine tension, routine maintenance, and of course, stitching.

You'll also learn how to make a simple pattern, select and prepare fabric, cut and sew.

You'll leave this class with a finished throw pillow and the skills to complete simple projects on your own.

All materials are included; select your preferred fabric color when you register for this class. Crafty Broads will provide all necessary sewing tools; bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours.

Level: Beginner, no sewing experience necessary.

4 sessions / $115
6:30pm-8:00pm, Thursdays, October 13th - November 10th (No class 10/20)
Class is limited to 6 students.

Registration for this course is now closed. Please check back for future sessions.

Intro to Skirts (with Pockets!)

In this class, you'll learn the basic building blocks of a pattern. Using your own measurements, you'll draft a skirt pattern - with POCKETS!

We'll teach you how to measure accurately, translate numbers into a paper pattern, and manipulate the basic shape into the skirt style you prefer. You'll learn how to pattern two styles of pockets, waistbands, and zipper openings. Do not be afraid of patterning - you can do it, even if you've never sewn from a pattern before!

Next, you'll select the fabric you want (with our guidance) and transform your pattern into a wearable skirt. We'll show you how to prep the fabric, cut and mark it for sewing, insert pockets, attach a waistband, and install a zipper.

You'll finish this class with a completed, wearable skirt that fits you, and the skills to sew simple garments from commercial patterns. You'll also walk away with the ability to add pockets to skirts and dresses that you already own!

Sewing tools and equipment are provided; bring your own machine or use one of ours. You'll purchase the materials and notions needed for your skirt after you've created the pattern; those are not included in the cost of the class, and you should expect to spend $20-$60, depending on your style and fabric choices.

Level: Advanced Beginner - You are comfortable using a sewing machine and have sewn a few simple items, such as throw pillows or curtains. Experience sewing from a pattern is helpful, but not required.
